Overview

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, also popularly called as Tulip Garden, is the largest tulip garden in Asia, which is spread over an area of 29.6 acres. This sprawling garden was conceived, conceptualised and created in the year of 2006- 2007. It is situated in Siraj Bagh, Chashmashahi on the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain ranges with an overview of picturesque Dal Lake. About 20 lakh flowers with hundreds varieties of tulip adorn the sprawling land of the garden. The magnificent beauty of a wide spectrum of colourful tulip flowers can easily unwind and enthral any tourist. It fascinates a large number of tourists when the perennial flower blooms in the months of March, April and May.

 

Weather 

Spring (March to May): This is the most popular season to visit, especially in early April when the tulips bloom. Temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), with pleasant weather perfect for enjoying the garden's vibrant colours.

Summer (June to August): Summer can be warm, with temperatures between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F). It's an ideal time for outdoor activities, through the tulips will have faded.

Autumn (September to November): The weather cools down, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 20°C (41°F to 68°F). The garden showcases autumn colours, but the tulips are no longer in bloom.

Winter (December to February): Winters can be quite cold, with temperatures often dipping below freezing. The garden is quiet, and snow may cover the landscape, offering a different, serene beauty.

 

How to reach

By Air:Srinagar Airport (SXR) is about 12 km from the garden. You can take a taxi or a ride-sharing app from the airport.

By Road:Taxi/Auto-Rickshaw: Available from the city centre (approximately 7 km away).

Public Transport: Local buses and shared cabs operate from various parts of Srinagar to the garden.

By Foot:The garden is also accessible by walking if you’re nearby.

 

Best  time to visit

The best time to visit Tulip Garden (Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden) in Srinagar is during the spring season, specifically from late March to early April, when the tulips are in full bloom. This period offers a breathtaking display of vibrant colours and is ideal for enjoying the garden's beauty. The garden usually opens around the first week of April, depending on the weather conditions.

 

 

History

The garden was opened in 2007 with the aim to boost floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. It was formerly known as Siraj Bagh. About 1.7 million tulip bulbs, all in multiple colours, were brought to Keukenhof tulip gardens of Amsterdam.
