Overview
Shankaracharya Temple, also known as Jyeshteshwara Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, located on the Zabarwan Range in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, at an altitude of 1,000 feet (300 m) above the valley. Overlooking the city, it is accessible from Boulevard Road near Gagribal. The temple attracts Kashmiri Hindus during festivals like Maha Shivaratri. It is a Monument of National Importance, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, and has been managed by the Dharmarth Trust since the 19th century, with Karan Singh as the chairperson trustee.

How to reach
By Road:
The temple is located approximately 2.5 kilometres from the city centre of Srinagar. You can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach the base of the hill. From there, you can either walk up the 200 steps to the temple or take a vehicle to a nearby parking area.
By Air:
The nearest airport is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR), located about 12 kilometres from the temple. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to reach the temple.
By Train:
The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi, which is about 270 kilometres away from Srinagar. From Jammu, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Srinagar, and then follow the road options to the temple.
Local Transport:
In Srinagar, you can also use auto-rickshaws or cycle rickshaws for a more local experience. They can take you closer to the temple entrance.
