The Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar has a rich and significant history. It is renowned for housing the "Moi-e-Muqaddas," a sacred relic believed to be a hair of the Prophet Muhammad. The journey of this relic to Kashmir is filled with fascinating stories. It was originally brought to India by Syed Abdullah in the 17th century. After several ownership transfers, it ended up in the possession of Khwaja Nur-ud-Din Eshai, a Kashmiri merchant. His daughter, Inayat Begum, eventually became the custodian of the relic and established the shrine. The current structure of the shrine, known for its beautiful marble facade, was built by the Muslim Auqaf Trust, led by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. The construction began in 1968 and was completed in 1979. It is now an important pilgrimage site for Muslims, especially on occasions when the holy relic is displayed for public viewing.
