Overview
Chashme Shahi, Chashma i Shahi, or Cheshma Shahi (translation: the royal spring), also called Chashma Shahi or Cheshma Shahi, is one of the Mughal gardens built in 1632 AD around a spring by Ali Mardan Khan, a governor of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as per the orders of the Emperor, as a gift for his eldest son Prince Dara Shikoh. The garden is located in the Zabarwan Range, near Raj Bhawan (Governor's house) overlooking Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Winter (December to February): Winter can be quite cold, with temperatures often dipping below freezing. Snow may blanket the garden, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere, though it is less frequented during this time due to the chill.
How to reach
By Car or Taxi: The most convenient way to reach Chashme Shahi is by car or taxi. It is located about 8 kilometres from the city centre. You can hire a taxi from any part of Srinagar or use ride-hailing apps if available.
Public Transportation: Local buses operate regularly to the area surrounding Chashme Shahi. You can catch a bus from various points in Srinagar that head towards Nishat or other nearby gardens, as they are located close to each other.
Walking: If you're staying nearby, walking to the garden can be a delightful experience. The scenic routes through the Mughal Gardens offer beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Chashme Shahi originally derives its name from the spring which was discovered by the great female saint of Kashmir, Rupa Bhawani, who was from the Sahib clan of Kashmiri Pandits. The family name of Rupa Bhawani was 'Sahib' and the spring was originally called 'Chashme Sahibi'. Over the years the name got corrupted and today the place is known as Chashme Shahi (the Royal Spring).
